What is Unplugged Book Box?

Unplugged Book Box is a monthly subscription box that focuses on new release Young Adult and New Adult literature. In each of our monthly boxes, you will receive one brand new, hand-picked, hardcover book from a variety of different genres. You will also receive 4-6 high quality, literature-inspired self-care and novelty products sourced form small businesses, publishing companies, or the author.

Unplugged Book Box is also a community of book-lovers. We want to inspire you to take care of yourself through unplugging with a good book and self-care goodies.  

How much do boxes cost?/How does the subscription work?

We offer three different subscription plans.

Monthly subscription plans are $34.99 (excl. shipping & applicable taxes). You will receive the subscription for the following month from your purchase. Boxes ship in the first week of the month. Once you pay for a subscription, you will be billed immediately and then again monthly on the 15th of the next month for the following month’s box.

3 month subscription plans are paid in one lump sum of $101.97. You will receive three months of boxes, which will begin the month following your initial payment. You will be billed for another three months on our auto-renewal system at the end of the three-month subscription on the 15th of the final month of your subscription duration.

6 month subscription plans are paid in one lump sum of $199.81. You will receive six months of boxes, which will begin the month following your initial payment. You will be billed for another six months on our auto-renewal system at the end of the six-month subscription on the 15th of the final month of your subscription duration.

What comes inside each box?

Each month will vary; but you can expect to see one new release (released within 2 months of shipment), hardcover young adult or new adult (where the protagonist is 18+) book. In addition to a new hardcover book, subscribers will receive 3-6, exclusive self-care goodies. Some items may be full size while others may be smaller. Each self-care item will tie into the month’s theme and self-care message as well as be inspired by literature and the season it is shipped.

Some of the goodies that we may include (but is not limited to): candles, shower goods & soap, tea or coffee, bath goods, lip care, skin care, journals or notebooks, mugs/travel mugs, artwork/photography, bookish novelty products, and items that inspire creativity. A majority of the items included in Unplugged Book Box are sourced from small businesses.

What are the themes?

Every month, Unplugged Book Box will create a unique theme influenced by a self-care message and the season the box is shipped. Monthly themes inspire the items inside each box. Each item is also inspired by literature or other fandoms, as well as with the month/season they are shipped in mind.

What age is Unplugged Book Box intended for?

Unplugged Book Box can be appreciated by just about anyone who loves literature. Reading and self-care are important for everyone of all ages. However, since boxes may include New Adult books with mature, dark themes, we recommend an audience of 18+; but mature teens are certainly welcome! Check our site and social media accounts for hints on the book to decide if it is right for you that particular month.

Primarily, we are made for 18+ adults that enjoy Young Adult and New Adults books.

When can I sign up?

Any time! If you sign up before the 28th of the month, you will receive the following month’s box! For example, if you sign up between August 1-28, you will receive the September box. (IF WE ARE SOLD OUT, you can enter your e-mail and be alerted when we are open again.)

What if I already own the book?

We are choosing the newest released books that have the best story and writing to fit our box each month, so unless you purchase every new release Young Adult or New Adult book, the chances are slim. Books we choose will have been released within 2 months of shipment. We’ll be announcing hints prior to shipment, so if it sounds like a book you already have, you may opt out for that month.

*NOTE* Unplugged Book Box cannot accept returns. Please read our other FAQs and Terms and Conditions for a full understanding of returns and refunds.

Can I buy a single item from a past box?

It depends! If we have extra inventory, we will list them on our store. Feel free to reach out if there is something specific, and we’ll see what we can do.

Can I buy past boxes?

If they are available, you certainly may! They will be listed on our store. We will ship past boxes within 2-4 business days of receiving the order.

Shipping, Billing, & Renewals

When does Unplugged Book Box ship?

We will be shipping between the 1st and 7th of the month. Ordering between the 1st-last of the previous month ensures you will receive the following month’s box. (You will receive a tracking number to your e-mail once we print our shipping labels to begin the process.)

When will I be billed?

If it is your first time ordering, you will be billed immediately. Billing renews on the 15th of the month, so you will be billed again on the following month for the following cycle should you wish to continue your subscription.

(For example: one month subscriptions will be auto-renewed and billed on the 15th of the following month unless cancelled. Three and six month subscriptions will be auto renewed and billed at the end of each cycle).

You may cancel your subscription at anytime within your account. Click Edit under "Your Subscriptions. Scroll down to find "Cancel Subscription!" You may also cancel by e-mailing us at

*Please note*- cancelling in the middle of a subscription duration will cancel the auto-renewal. You will receive any boxes you have pre-paid, but you will not be auto-renewed.

How do renewals work?

Billing renews on the 15th of the month, so you will be billed again on the following month for the following cycle should you wish to continue your subscription.  (For example: one month subscriptions will be auto-renewed and billed on the 15th of the following month unless cancelled. Three and six month subscriptions will be auto renewed and billed at the end of each cycle). 

If you wish to continue your subscription, there is no need to act; your place is all set!

My renewal failed- what do I do?

There are a number of reasons a renewal can fail. Don’t worry! It could be that your credit card expired or was replaced. If you are located outside of the United States, your card company could block the transaction due to their strict policy regarding online shopping. In this case, you have to contact your bank/card company to authorize the charge.

A failed renewal is not a cancellation! Our system will continue to try and charge your account if it fails before your subscription is expired.

Because our boxes are limited, please make sure to take care of any of these failures within 3-5 days of billing so that your spot can be secured. If we sell out of boxes before this is straightened out, your renewal will be applied to the following month.

How much is shipping?

Shipping depends on where you live. We ship through the United States Postal Service; so domestic shipments (including all 50 U.S. states and outlining territories) are $7.99 per box. International shipping varies based on your location and will be calculated at the time of checkout.

We have worked with a shipping company to ensure the most reliable shipping available at the automatic lowest rates; but please note that shipping internationally is unavoidably costly. International customs charges may also be applied when the product is delivered, so please bear that in mind when ordering.

Does Unplugged Book Box ship to my country?

Unplugged Book box ships globally with the exception of Mexico and Peru. Unfortunately, shipping is unreliable and packages often get lost, and may take months to arrive in these countries. We hope to find a way to change this in the future.

Is shipping tracked?

Yes! You will receive a tracking number once the shipping labels are printed.

When will the box arrive?

It depends on where you live. We ship in the first week of the month and do our best to get International shipments out first since they take much longer to arrive. With your tracking number, you can get a better idea of exactly when your box will arrive!

I want to cancel; how do I do that?

You can cancel in your account under “your subscriptions.” Click "edit," then scroll down to "Cancel Subscription." Or you may cancel by e-mailing us at


Can I order just one box?

You may! We have a one month subscription. It will be auto-renewed, so please keep that in mind; though you may cancel at any time.

What payment methods can I use?

We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, JCB, Discover, and Diners Club.

Do you accept PayPal?

Yes, we do!

What is the one month vs. 3 or 6 month plans?

If you sign up for a one month subscription, you will receive your boxes on a monthly basis and can cancel any time (you will receive any boxes you paid for). If you order a 3 month subscription, you get a slight discount per month and will receive 3 boxes before you are billed again. If you order a 6 month plan, you will receive 6 boxes before you are billed again. 

You’re sold out but I want to subscribe! What do I do?

Thank you for your interest!
If you submit your e-mail, we can get you on the waiting list in the event that more boxes become available! Otherwise, we will put you on a waiting list and prioritize you for the following month.

Definitely keep your eye on our “past boxes” shop as well- we will be selling past boxes when available if you are particularly interested in a certain month!

What currency do you use?

We use the U.S. Dollar. 

How can I order a gift for someone?

Thank you for thinking of us to use as a gift!

There is an option on our main page to give Unplugged Book Box as a gift. Select how many months you would like to give, follow each step, and make sure to fill out the recipient’s information! Please tick off "this item is a gift" on the check out page and enter any notes you want us to send them!

Enter your billing information and click “checkout.” Your gift will be all set to go :)


Will my gift subscription auto-renew?

No. When you click "gift" at checkout it will  not auto-renew unless you specify that you would like it to.

Can I include a personalized note for a gift?

Of course! Personalized messages are great! Add the personal message at checkout or send us an e-mail before we ship boxes (which will take place the first week of the month!). We will do our best to accommodate your needs! 


Can I skip a box?

You may! Please e-mail us at if you would like to a skip a month in your subscription. Your subscription will then be pushed to the following month.

Can I return my box or be refunded?

We do not accept returns. If you require a replacement due to a damaged product, please let us know. We require photographic evidence of the damaged product and are happy to send a replacement or refund you for the cost of the product if our stock is out.

When do I need to cancel so I am not billed again?

We bill on the 15th of the month at the end of your subscription term, so please be sure to cancel before then so you are not renewed.

I have a bookstagram, booktube, book blog, or a book twitter. Can I get a free box to review or promote?

Thank you so much for your interest and for your willingness to help promote our brand! It really means a lot to us :)

To answer your question, it really depends on a number of factors. Due to a high volume of inquiries, we will consider inquiries on a case-by-case and month-by-month basis. 

Right now, we can only send free boxes to those that have a strong social media presence (5,000+ followers) and who have great interactions on their blogs, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube. If you fit these requirements, please contact us at and we will see what we can do!

I am a writer/I know a writer! Do you want to read my/their work and feature it in a box?

That’s awesome! We are writers, too, and we wish you / them the best of luck with your / their writing endeavors. Creativity is so important and we really appreciate you reaching out and thinking of us.

Right now, we are only including new release, hardcover, Young Adult or New Adult books from major publishing companies in our boxes. If you have a book coming out through a major publishing company that meets this criteria, let us know so we can request ARCs if we believe it will match with our box’s message and themes!
