What is Unplugged Book Box?

Unplugged Book Box is a monthly subscription box that focuses on self care with a bookish twist. Unplugged offers two box options: Young Adult or an Adult Fiction box. In each of our monthly boxes, you will receive one newly released, hand-picked, hardcover or paperback book from a variety of different genres. You will also receive 4-6 high quality, literature-inspired self-care and novelty products mostly sourced from small businesses.

Unplugged Book Box is also a community of book-lovers. Unplugged wants to inspire you to take care of yourself through unplugging with a good book and self-care goodies.  

How much do boxes cost?/How does the subscription work?

Unplugged offers four different subscription plans.

Monthly subscription plans are $39.99 (excl. shipping & applicable taxes/customs fees). You will receive the subscription for the following month from your purchase. Boxes ship in the first week of the month. Once you pay for a subscription, you will be billed immediately and then again monthly on the 15th of the next month for the following month’s box.   

3 month subscription plans are paid in one lump sum of $117.45 (excl. shipping & applicable taxes/customs fees). You will receive three months of boxes, which will begin the month following your initial payment. You will be billed for another three months on our auto-renewal system at the end of the three-month subscription on the 15th of the final month of your subscription duration.    

6 month subscription plans are paid in one lump sum of $234.10 (excl. shipping & applicable taxes/customs fees). You will receive six months of boxes, which will begin the month following your initial payment. You will be billed for another six months on our auto-renewal system at the end of the six-month subscription on the 15th of the final month of your subscription duration.

12 month subscription plans are paid in one lump sum of $456.00 (excl. shipping & applicable taxes/customs fees). You will receive twelve months of boxes, which will begin the month following your initial payment. You will be billed for another twelve months on our auto-renewal system at the end of the six-month subscription on the 15th of the final month of your subscription duration.

What comes inside each box?

Each month will vary; but you can expect to see one new release (released within 90 days of shipment) book. In the Young Adult boxes, the book will generally be hardcover. In the Adult Fiction boxes, the book may be hardcover or paperback. In addition to a new release book, subscribers will receive 4-6, exclusive self-care goodies. Some items may be full size while others may be smaller. Each self-care item will tie into the month’s theme and self-care message as well as be inspired by literature and the season it is shipped.

Some of the goodies that Unplugged may include (but is not limited to): candles, shower goods & soap, tea or coffee, bath goods, lip care, skin care, journals or notebooks, mugs/travel mugs, artwork/photography, bags/totes, kitchen gadgets, baking kits, candy, bookish novelty products, and items that inspire creativity. A majority of the items included in Unplugged Book Box are sourced from small businesses.

What are the themes?

Every month, Unplugged Book Box will create a unique theme influenced by a self-care message and the season the box is shipped. Monthly themes inspire the items inside each box. Each item is also inspired by literature or other fandoms, as well as with the month/season they are shipped in mind.

What age is Unplugged Book Box intended for?

Unplugged Book Box can be appreciated by just about anyone who loves literature. Reading and self-care are important for everyone of all ages. For the Young Adult Box, it will be suitable for teens ages 13+ and adults that enjoy reading Young Adult (like ourselves!). Check the Unplugged site and social media accounts for hints on each month's book to decide if it is right for you that particular month. 

The Adult Fiction box is appropriate for adults of any age that enjoy reading and self-care.

When can I sign up?

Any time! So long Unplugged is not sold out, you can subscribe between the 1st & last of the month to receive the following month's box. The cutoff date is the last of the month as Unplugged ships in the first week of each month.

What if I already own the book?

Unplugged is choosing newly released books that have the best story and writing to fit each box's monthly theme, so unless you purchase every new release Young Adult or  Adult Fiction book, the chances are slim. Books Unplugged chooses will have been released within 1-3 months of shipment. Unplugged will be announcing hints prior to shipment, so if it sounds like a book you already have, you may opt out for that month.

Can I buy a single item from a past box?

It depends! If there is extra inventory, they will be listed on the shop. Feel free to reach out if there is something specific, and I'll see what I can do.

Can I buy past boxes?

If they are available, you certainly may! They will be listed on our store. These will be shipped within 2-5 business days of purchase.

Can I buy both the Young Adult and Adult Fiction boxes?

Absolutely! You can sign up for both boxes on this website. Just add both to your cart before checking out.

Shipping, Billing, & Renewals

When does Unplugged Book Box ship?

Unplugged ships between the 1st and 7th of the month. Ordering between the 1st-last of the previous month ensures you will receive the following month’s box. (You will receive a tracking numbers once your boxes ship).

When will I be billed?

If it is your first time ordering, you will be billed immediately. Billing renews on the 15th of the month, so you will be billed again on the following month for the following cycle should you wish to continue your subscription.

(For example: one month subscriptions will be auto-renewed and billed on the 15th of the following month unless cancelled. Three and six month subscriptions will be auto renewed and billed at the end of each cycle).

You may cancel your subscription at anytime within your account. Click Edit under "Your Subscriptions. Scroll down to find "Cancel Subscription!" You may also cancel by e-mailing me at

*Please note*- cancelling in the middle of a subscription duration will cancel the auto-renewal. You will receive any boxes you have pre-paid, but you will not be auto-renewed.

How do renewals work?

Billing renews on the 15th of the month, so you will be billed again on the following month for the following cycle should you wish to continue your subscription.  (For example: one month subscriptions will be auto-renewed and billed on the 15th of the following month unless cancelled. Three and six month subscriptions will be auto renewed and billed at the end of each cycle). 

If you wish to continue your subscription, there is no need to act; your place is all set!

My renewal failed- what do I do?

There are a number of reasons a renewal can fail. Don’t worry! It could be that your credit card expired or was replaced. If you are located outside of the United States, your card company could block the transaction due to their policies regarding online shopping. In this case, you have to contact your bank/card company to authorize the charge.

A failed renewal is not a cancellation! The system will continue to try and charge your account if it fails before your subscription is expired.

Because the boxes are limited, please make sure to take care of any of these failures within 3-5 days of billing so that your spot can be secured. If Unplugged sells out of boxes before this is straightened out, your renewal will be applied to the following month.

How much is shipping?

Shipping depends on where you live. I ship through the United States Postal Service; so domestic shipments (including all 50 U.S. states and outlining territories) are $9.35 per box. International shipping varies based on your location and will be calculated at the time of checkout.

Unplugged has worked with a shipping company to ensure the most reliable shipping available at the automatic lowest rates; but please note that shipping internationally is unavoidably costly. International customs charges may also be applied when the product is delivered, so please bear that in mind when ordering. Subscribers are responsible for customs fees.

Please note, shipping prices are subject to change at any time without notice based on USPS price increases.

Does Unplugged Book Box ship to my country?

Unplugged Book box ships globally with the exception of Mexico and Peru. Unfortunately, shipping is unreliable and packages often get lost, and may take months to arrive in these countries. We hope to find a way to change this in the future.

Is shipping tracked?

Yes! You will receive a tracking number once the boxes ship.

My box has shipped, but it is going to my old address. What do I do?

Once your box has shipped, Unplugged Book Box cannot change the address. It is your responsibility to assure that the address is up to date. Please e-mail Unplugged Book Box at to assure your address is up to date. 

You may be able to intercept your package to forward it to you if it has not yet been delivered to your old address. Click here to learn about intercepting packages.

When will the box arrive?

It depends on where you live. Unplugged ships in the first week of the month. With your tracking number, you can get a better idea of exactly when your box will arrive! 

Generally, domestic takes between 1-3 business days and international shipment to Europe, Canada, the UK, and Australia takes 1-4 weeks from shipment. Shipments to South America, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa may take 3-8 weeks.

I am an International subscriber and my tracking information hasn't updated in a while. Where is my box?

Once a box leaves the United States, it is up to local post to deliver it to you. Sometimes these updates do not register on the USPS tracking website. Unfortunately, Unplugged Book Box cannot track boxes outside of the United States any further than what your tracking information indicates. However, it is very rare that a package goes completely missing. International shipping can take a  long time to arrive to some areas around the globe  and is particularly slow during certain times of the year. It will arrive to you, but it may take a little longer than expected in some areas!

If I buy both boxes, can I combine shipping?

Unfortunately, because Unplugged cannot fit all of the items into just one box, I cannot do that at thie time. It is more cost-efficient to ship them individually.

Can I switch from one box to the other?

Yes, you may! Please note, if you switch before or after renewal, switching from one box to the other will apply to all unshipped boxes. For example, if you have a three month pre-paid Adult Fiction subscription and switch to YA on month two, you will receive the YA box for your last two boxes unless you switch back.

If a box is sold-out, you will be unable to switch to it.

I am an international subscriber. Will I be charged customs fees every month?

It depends on which country and which city you are from. Unfortunately, Unplugged has no control over international customs laws. Understand that customs fees and taxes may be applied to your box and it is solely your responsibility to pay these and to understand local laws for imports from the United States. 


I want to cancel; how do I do that?

We're sorry to see you go! We understand you may have many different reasons for cancelling. You can cancel in your account under “your subscriptions.” Click "edit," then scroll down to "Cancel Subscription." Or you may cancel by e-mailing me at

Please note, cancellations apply to renewals. If you cancel after renewal on the 15th of the month, you will still receive the box that you have renewed for. You may e-mail Unplugged at if your box renewed and wish to cancel it. Please note, if you cancel after renewal and need a refund, you will be charged a small cancellation fee from the credit card processor.


Can I order just one box?

You may! There is a one-time box offered each month in the shop. These will not renew; but they are limited and often sell out early. Discount codes also do not apply to one-time orders.

You may also subscribe on a month-to-month basis to save some money.

What payment methods can I use?

Unplugged accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express, JCB, Discover, and Diners Club.

What is the one month vs. 3 or 6 or 12 month plans?

If you sign up for a one month subscription, you will receive your boxes on a monthly basis and can cancel any time (you will receive any boxes you paid for). If you order a 3 month subscription, you get a slight discount per month and will receive 3 boxes before you are billed again. If you order a 6 month plan, you will receive 6 boxes before you are billed again. If you order a 12 month plan, you will receive 12 boxes before you are billed again.

You’re sold out but I want to subscribe! What do I do?

How can I order a gift for someone?

Thank you for thinking of us to use as a gift!

There is an option on the main page to give Unplugged Book Box as a gift. Select how many months you would like to give, follow each step, and make sure to fill out the recipient’s information! Please tick off "this item is a gift" on the check out page and enter any notes you want Unplugged to send them to their e-mail when the box ships.

Enter your billing information and click “checkout.” Your gift will be all set to go :)

Will my gift subscription auto-renew?

No. When you click "gift" at checkout it will  not auto-renew unless you specify that you would like it to.

Can I include a personalized note for a gift?

Yes! Personalized gift messages are automatically e-mailed to your recipient when the boxes are shipped. Please make sure to include their e-mail when you are checking out.

Can I skip a box?

You may! 

Monthly subscribers - Simply log into your account to edit "Your Subscriptions." There is a button that says "skip renewal." 

If you are in the middle of a 3 or 6 month plan, skipping will only apply to your renewal and will be for 3 or 6 months skipped. If you want to just skip one month, please e-mail us at

Can I return my box or be refunded?

Unplugged does not accept returns. If you require a replacement due to a damaged product, please let us know via e-mail at We do require photographic evidence of the damaged product as vendors sometimes need these to fulfill replacement requests. We are happy to send a replacement or refund you for the cost of the product if it is out of stock.

What if I accidentally ordered two boxes and they already shipped/arrived?

If you accidentally ordered two boxes and didn't realize until they arrived, you can return the box for a refund excluding the shipping fees. 

Can I cancel for a refund if the box is running late?

We always do our best to ship on time. On the rare occasion that we are shipping late due to circumstances beyond our control, we do not allow cancellations for a refund. In circumstances that the post delays your shipment, we cannot offer a cancellation or refund. We do everything in our power to ship quality boxes in a timely fashion, but once a box leaves our facility, we have no control over it.

When do I need to cancel so I am not billed again?

Billing is on the 15th of the month at the end of your subscription term, so please be sure to cancel before then so you are not renewed.

Thank you so much for your interest and for your willingness to help promote the Unplugged brand! It really means a lot to me :)

To answer your question, it really depends on a number of factors. Due to a high volume of inquiries, I will consider inquiries on a case-by-case and month-by-month basis. 

Right now, I can only send free boxes to those that have a strong social media presence (10,000+ followers) and that have great interactions on their blogs, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube. If you fit these requirements, please contact us at and I will see what I can do!

I am a writer/I know a writer! Do you want to read my/their work and feature it in a box?

If your book is being traditionally published, you may definitely e-mail us at and let us know to look out for it. We'll just need the release date, genre info, and what publisher you worked with!

If you are an Independent Author, we have a submissions form you may submit for your book(s). Please submit one per book. We cannot reply to all inquiries, but we will reach out if we think your book might be a good fit for an upcoming box!
